Don Furlong, CLU®, CFP®

Don Furlong began his financial services career by entering the life insurance business in 1980. He joined New England Financial in 1984, working with individuals and small business owners, helping them in the areas of employee benefits, retirement planning, life insurance and estate planning.  He has worked in the area of comprehensive financial planning for the last ten years, recently opening his own practice through LPL Financial, where he focuses on comprehensive financial planning, wealth management and planning for families with special needs.

Don earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from Florida Southern College and holds the CLU® (Chartered Life Underwriter) designation from the American College, and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner (CFP®), having met the rigorous educational, certification and experience standards of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.

As a financial services professional, Don believes there is more to financial planning than the just the financial plan and the numbers. Success is measured not just by his clients' financial well-being, but also by the “financial confidence” they feel when the financial goals they pursue are in line with their personal values. To that end, he endeavors to learn more about their goals and values, insights that help ensure his clients' financial decisions are aligned with what is important in their lives.

Don lived in the Tampa/Brandon area for 30 years where he volunteered with various ministries at his church, as a Boy Scout Leader and as an instructor and disaster relief worker with the American Red Cross. He now lives with his wife, Ellen, in Sarasota, where together they volunteer through their church leading classes to help individuals and couples learn how to budget, get out of debt, save and invest for the future. Don and Ellen have three children: Donald, Kristen and Laine and three beautiful grandchildren Luke, Drew and Emma, with a fourth due in the Fall of 2013!
